To make this situation visible, the Plataforma NNAPES member organizations have produced different audiovisual pieces that portray the voices of the children and their families.
Adolescents participate of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (in Spanish with English subtitles)
The adolescents Manuel, Federico and David (from Uruguay and Nicaragua, respectively) expressed to the Court the main impacts that are generated on children and adolescents when a family member is deprived of liberty and what are the recommendations that the States should follow. It was a historical fact, because a group of adolescents participated for the first time in an event of this nature. At the end of the Hearing, the adolescents had the opportunity to exchange with Judge Ricardo Pérez Manrique. Antonia Urrejola, President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, highlighted the historical intervention of adolescents.

Facundo (Uruguay)
Facundo is currently 17 years old (he was 15 at the time this was filmed), lives in Montevideo, Uruguay and participates in different programs of the Uruguayan organization, and member of the Platform, Gurises Unidos. When he was 13, his father was arrested and both he and his siblings had to assume the role of his father in the family, since they did not receive any support from the State. His testimony was used by representatives of Plataforma NNAPES, to begin the hearing at IACHR in October 2015.
A testimony from Argentina
Dominican children and adolescents share their stories
In April 2016 a project supported by the US embassy in the Dominican Republic was finalized. Among the results of this projects are these two videos. One that portrays some of the stories of youth impacted by the incarceration of their father and another one where Dominican professionals highlight the importance of making this type of exchanges.
Caregivers in Chile
In addition to giving voice to the children and youth, at Plataforma NNAPEs we believe it is important to listen to the voice of the caregivers of these children and youth, who are mostly women. As an example, we share a video produced by the Chilean organization EnMarcha, as part of a program where they develop strategies to support these women from the Sol Poniente neighborhood in Maipú, Santiago, Chile.
More videos from Enmarcha can be watched in their YouTube channel.
